Why Chains Are Sometimes Promoted as Freedom

Some things the world calls "freedom" are actually "Chains." This 1-minute devotion explains true freedom.

“Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains!”

This Marxist motto changed history as Communists overthrew oppressive monarchies and set up their godless governments.

In truth, they simply exchanged one set of chains for another

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles’” (Psalm 2:1-3).

Ever since the fall of man, there has been a struggle between the true and living God and man-made philosophies. We see this in human history like the Communist oppression of Eastern Europe and China. And we see it in our own current events.

We also see it on a smaller scale in our own hearts whenever we abandon biblical truths for cultural values.

Remnant believers understand that no matter how many chains the world puts on us, we are truly free because “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Blessed are those who recognize true chains” (Psalm 2).
