What's Your Addiction?

As a new Christian I was struggling with an addictive habit of going on overeating binges.

Then a friend shared how he quit smoking:

One night when he was longing for a cigarette, he picked up his Bible and read 1 Corinthians 10:13:

"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

For the first time he realized the meaning of this verse. Others had faced the same temptation and they'd quit smoking. With God's help, no temptation could overpower him. God would give him whatever strength he needed.

The choice was his: he could take the "way out" God provides or he could light another cigarette.

That night he quit smoking.

I applied those truths to my addictive habit and I quit as well.

How about you? Is it time you started taking God’s way out?

    1. Yes, Connie, when my friend shared about it helping him overcome smoking, I immediately applied it to some of my "addictions."

    1. Yes, Lij, this principle applies to any temptation.
Pray and ask God's help in this temptation.
Then remember when you are tempted that God has provided a way out for you. He won't let you be tempted beyond what you are able to stand. So make the choice not to do it.

May God bless you and give you strength.

  7. As previously stated.....
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
    Philippians 4:13

Memorizing scripture and quoting it when temptations arise and remembering that Jesus knows what it's like to be tempted has brought me victory. Jesus told Satan when he tempted him "It is written...." :)
