“In a culture where lies persist and truth is hard to find, Gail Purath dispels many of the most prevalent lies that can shipwreck a believer’s faith and gently leads us back to the truth about God’s character and will for our lives. New believers and even many long-time believers cannot afford to ignore Gail’s teaching and corrections.”

✔ Gail has a master's from seminary and years of Bible study and writing experience.
From the time she became a Christian, Gail has loved God's Word, regularly doing personal and group study. As a military wife, mom, and full-time homemaker, she was actively involved in writing and leading women's Bible studies.

I look forward to this new book, Gail! Does it come with a workbook for group study? Thank you, Mary Lu
ReplyDeleteHi Mary Lu,
DeleteIt doesn't come with at workbook, but each chapter ends with "Digging Deeper" Questions which are great for group study. And I think that most chapters will automatically lead to some lively discussions as many of these "lies in disguise" have become part of Christian teachings.
And I'm praying about ways that readers or leaders of a group might interact with me if they had questions. I'm considering creating a Facebook group or some other way to share questions and suggestions. I'd appreciate prayer regarding that.
Hello Gail. I’m super excited about your new book and can’t wait to get a copy!
DeleteA little off topic but not completely, I’d like to ask your opinion about a pastor’s interpretation of Genesis 5:1-3. He said that Adam was made in the perfect image and likeness of God, but that everyone born after Adam was made in the image and likeness of Adam; sinful, which would explain why we must be born again… in the image and likeness of God. This sounds right to me, but I’ve always heard everyone say that we were all created in the image of God. Do you agree with this interpretation? If so, would you consider it a half-truth that Satan could be using to try to make unbelievers think they’re alright in God’s sight just as they are; in the perfect image of God?
Thank you for your time, Gail. I have really enjoyed all of your Bible Love Notes over the years. I look forward to receiving your emails and have saved 1549 of them in a Bible Love Notes folder so I can always go back and look for specific studies. May the Lord bless you for all of your hard work, your devotion, and your willingness to use your talents to serve God as you are!
Thanks so much for your encouragement. It blesses me!
DeleteTo give you a concise answer: yes your pastor is correct. We still bear the image of God (and so did Adam), but the sin of Adam and Eve damaged that image. So, we are born as "fallen" human beings who need redemption. Here is an excerpt from the Got Questions explanation:
"Part of being made in God’s image is that Adam had the capacity to make free choices. Although they were given a righteous nature, Adam and Eve made an evil choice to rebel against their Creator. In so doing, they marred the image of God within themselves, and passed that damaged likeness on to all their descendants (Romans 5:12). Today, we still bear the image of God (James 3:9), but we also bear the scars of sin. Mentally, morally, socially, and physically, we show the effects of sin." GotQuestions
