Do you have a good Christian friend?
God designed us for close, meaningful relationships that strengthen our faith, and He warns against relationships that affect us negatively (1 Corinthians 15:33).
There's no magic formula for finding positive, faith-building relationships, but let me offer some suggestions:
1. Find a small group or Bible study that is biblically sound. This is often the first step in building a relationship.
2. Ask God to help you identify solid Christians among your acquaintances and invite them to pray with you.
3. Remember that the first step in having a good friend is being one, and Scripture offers excellent guidance. For example:
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:2
"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." Romans 12:15
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11
See also: Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 3:12-14, and Hebrews 3:13.
If you have a close relationship that encourages your faith, take time today to thank the Lord for it. If you don't, seek His guidance in finding one. It's important to your spiritual well-being!
In addition, I encourage you to read these 1-minute devotions which address biblical attitudes in friendship:
3 Aspects of Gracious Speech
Get Out of Yourself
This is an area where many Christians selfishly ignore a biblical command that would make them "shine" with their friends.
