Three Impossible Commands

The commands in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 sounds impossible until we understand some important distinctions. This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Biblestudy

Does 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 sound impossible?

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)

“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (AMP)

ALWAYS? CONTINUALLY? In ALL circumstances?

Before thinking this is impossible, note these truths:

God doesn't tell us to rejoice and give thanks FOR all circumstances, but IN all circumstances.

This is possible because we know God is always with us, working even the worst of circumstances for our good (Hebrews13:5; Romans 8:28).

But how can we pray unceasingly?

We do this by developing an “attitude of prayer.” This means we think of God whenever making decisions, facing problems, or relating to others. We send up silent prayers and praises throughout our day.

Sound impossible?

Not with Christ’s help (Philipians 4:13).
