Saved - Past, Present, Future

Why "We’re saved, we’re being saved, we will be saved"

Have you heard the saying: "We’re saved, we’re being saved, we will be saved"?

It's true!

1. We’re saved:
Our salvation was accomplished on the cross and given to us the moment we believed.

Ephesians 1:13: "When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit."

2. We’re being saved:
(1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 2:15.)

Philippians 2:12-13: "Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

"Working out our salvation" involves:
1. Finding out what pleases the Lord (Ephesians 5:10).
2. Learning to recognize His Will (Romans 12:2).
3. Living in gratitude, rejoicing in our salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

3. We will be saved:
Our salvation will be complete and fully realized when Christ returns.

Hebrews 9:28: Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Yes, we're saved, we're being saved, and we will be saved.

  1. I don't mean to nitpick, but my salvation is already complete. I can do nothing to get, secure it, keep it or make it happen. Christ did it all. I can only accept the complete salvation that Christ death has secured for me. So I don't agree that we are "being saved, and will be saved". If your going to use those term to speak about sanctification and glorification you need to be much more clear. It is not about me, it's all about Him.

    1. Hi Jerry,
Everything in this devotion is based on the clear teaching of Scripture and the original Greek words.

2 Corinthians 2:15: For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

1 Corinthians 1:18: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

["being saved" is an exact translation of the Greek word σωζομένοις in these passages]

You're nitpicking with God's Word, not with me. Proverbs 3:5

    2. Hi Jerry I am not an expert in Bible but I agree with Gail that we need to be continuously saved. As much as God's salvation is an all in all saving act but we are still human and live in the fallen nature which means we constantly win and inorder to live a godly life we need to be constantly seeking God's forgiveness....now please don't tell me that you don'tsin anymore one of the best example of ongoing need for being saved is in John 13:1-17 where Peter tells Jesus to not only wash his feet but his hands n head. Jesus replies by saying to him he need not be fully washed. In other words Salvation is a one time act of justification by faith, but the lifelong process of sanctification is one of washing from the stain of sin we experience as we walk through the world

    3. You're not correct ACTUALLY. Your salvation isn't complete until you've been adopted into sonship, meaning, given your inheritance. Aka the new body. The spirit of adoption is in you from salvation but redemption isn't done until you've received your new body. Read Galatians.

  2. My husband, who is a minister, has used this exact phrase many times as it is based on the original greek in the two passages of scripture noted. People get their rankles up, but God's word is clear throughout the Bible, including the New Testament that we are to continue in the faith and work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

  3. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
    Colossians 1:13‭-‬14 NIV
If I am rescued by God and brought me into His beloved Son kingdom theres no doubt that I am secure and saved. Nothing can separates us with His love (Redemptive Work)
