Genuine Thankfulness - 1 Timothy 6:7-8

Genuine thankfulness is often found in the most unlikely of places. This 1-minute devotion explains and offers Scriptural insights.

Most of us consider home and car ownership our "right." We think hot showers and full kitchen pantries are "necessities."

We also take our sight, hearing, and health for granted.

Sadly, the more we have, the more we expect.

Years ago, I watched a show featuring different families during a financial crisis in America. One woman worked for minimum wage and lived in a mobile home with her disabled husband. She was grateful for the smallest blessings. Another woman lived an upper-class life. She complained bitterly about losing her vacation home.

Sometimes we need to step back and consider our blessings.

"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that." 1 Timothy 6:7-8

Gratitude is an essential aspect of the Christian faith:

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Even in the most difficult circumstances, Christians have something to be thankful for because we have been saved by our loving Lord. Understanding what God has done for us gives us a permanent reason to be grateful.

"Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!" 2 Corinthians 9:15

May we embrace this truth today and every day.
