7 Practical Ways to Keep Your Walk With the Lord Energized - 2 John 1:6

walking the walk, obeying Christ, growing in Christ
Did you know that our faith is a "walk"?

It's a "walk in love" in obedience to Christ's commands 2 John 1:6.

Unfortunately, it's easy to start dragging our feet, get off the path, or linger too long in one spot.

So here's a few practical ideas to put that bounce back in your steps:

1. Write prayer requests on sticky notes and put them where you'll see them daily.

2. Use photos as prayer reminders. (Photos and Prayer)

3. Don't allow yourself to go to bed until you've read the Bible for at least 5 minutes.

4. Put your prayer list on your phone's reminder app.

5. Clean up your spiritual environment, getting rid of books, magazines, music, movies, and television shows not pleasing to God (The Only Opinion).

6. Choose an unsaved friend or relative to pray for each week.

7. Think through your salvation testimony so you'll be prepared to share it when God gives you opportunity (6 Ways to Use a Written Testimony).

Whatever you do, keep walking...

We all need fresh ideas for incorporating Christ into our busy days. I'd like to hear yours.

If I get enough ideas, I will share them in an upcoming Bible Love Note. In fact, I'd love to get enough ideas for several love notes. Subscribers can simply hit reply and write them in an email. Others can leave them in comments below this devotion. Please include your first name. Thanks!

  1. I will be checking back to hear what others say. I wish I had some kind of reply as to how to fit God into our busy lives. I have had to simplify my life and be a stay at home mom and that has helped. I know that's not realistic for everyone. I guess we each need to pray and ask the Lord to show us individually how we can connect with him each day. When I was working full time, it felt impossible. That's why I'm eager to hear what others have to say on this topic. I would like to eventually return to work in a few years when my child is in school and I am worried about my life becoming so hectic that I miss out on growing my relationship with God.

  2. Every morning, I pray in my car before leaving the house and I read my daily bible verse (from the Holy Bible app) before walking into school. Praying puts my mind in the right place and the verse gives me joy. Most people's morning are very hectic, however there is always time to do something for God. These are my two, not so time consuming ways to kickstart my daily walk with God.

    2. I have a Pinterest board I titled: "Amen". If I am stuck waiting anyplace or just need to sit down for few minutes to rest my feet, if I grab my phone and go through my "Amen" board or look for item to add to it, it always calms me and fills my head with Bible verses and thoughts
of my Lord & Savior. (Some of your 1-Minute Bible Love Notes are there too.)

  3. First, I read a Bible Love Note everyday :)

I also like to listen to sermons via podcast - my recent playlist is full of Timothy Keller's sermons. I found this to be helpful in stopping my stinking-thinking during otherwise "mindless" activities, like doing puzzles, coloring, or exercising; it helps me listen and reset my outlook based on God's word.

  4. I'm learning to combine activities. For example, I just started memorizing scripture in the Jacuzzi, where I am doing exercises. (I put the verses in a Ziploc bag, and it hangs over the edge of our Jacuzzi cover where I can see it.) I'm also changing how/when I am on social media. It's part of my job to be there, but it can also distract me. So I now "schedule" my social media breaks so they don't drain time that I could use to pursue God-seeking activities. I will be creating a blessing bucket (an old popcorn tin painted to match my living room) that I plan to use to drop in "blessings" I encounter through the year -- and then, next December, when I take time to "remember" my blessings, I will take them out and read them to the praise of the Lord.

    1. Dawn, I love all of these ideas. I know how social media can consume more time than it should. Like you, it's part of my ministry to be on social media, but I can waste time there too. and love the blessing bucket idea.
      Thanks for sharing.
