This Little Light of Mine

Don’t underestimate the power message in this children’s song. Sing it, ponder it, and enjoy it! #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Did you sing this children's song in Sunday School?

"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine."

Some claim it was written by African-American slaves hundreds of years ago. Others claim it was composed in the 1920's. Whoever wrote it, it's lyrics are simple, yet profound.

I thought of this song when reading Psalm 18:28:

"You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness." NLT

But the lyrics take it one step further because the light coming from Christ makes us "lights" too.

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

This is a good truth to ponder.

Are we living "clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people," holding firmly to God's Word? Philippians 2:14-16

Let's let our lights shine.

  1. This song has been only mind most of the summer. I'm glad you wrote this post. It just confirms that I need to keep "sing" it. Maybe I'll sing it out loud!
