Let's Cling Tightly to Our Life-giving Vine

What a wonderful illustration Christ gives us in John 15. This devotion shares its warning and its blessings.

I love how the Bible gives us such meaningful illustrations. For example, in John 15:1-4 Christ explains that He is like a vine and we are like the branches. We have a unique relationship with our Lord!

Just as branches can't survive or thrive without the vine, we cannot mature in our faith without daily dependence on Christ.

And when we bear fruit, we can expect to be pruned.” This pruning isn't always fun, and we'd usually prefer to skip that step. But it's part of our growth process, cutting back our doubts, fears, and immaturity to make us more fruitful Christians.

This wonderful illustration of our relationship with Christ also includes a serious warning (v. 2). We cannot accomplish our God-given purposes in life if we don't seek nourishment from His Word. Our time in Scripture cleanses us (v. 3) because it “is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We cling tightly to our life-giving Vine through prayer, Bible study, and godly fellowship.

Consider today how you might better nourish your soul this week!
