Anyone can be gracious when things go their way. But Christians can be gracious even when they don’t.
Ephesians 4 gives us a great list of guidelines for living “a life worthy of our calling”:
1. Be humble and gentle (4:2).
See Bragging is Not Biblical.
2. Be patient and gracious (4:2).
See The Evolution of Patience.
3. Realize our important bond with fellow believers (4:3-6).
See Did you Know your Brother is a Songwriter?
4. Use our God-given gifts in ways that help ourselves and others to mature in faith (4:7-13).
See 3 Ways to Maximize Your God-given Gifts.
5. Speak God’s truth, but speak it in love (4:15).
See Clanging Gongs.
6. Never buy into worldly philosophies, but trust Scripture (4:17-21).
See 3 Reasons False Teachings are so Popular.
7. Focus on renewing our minds in God’s truth so we can say “no” to sinful desires (4:22-28).
See I Can’t Change.
8. Be especially careful that our speech is truthful and appropriate (Ephesians 4:29).
See The “F” Word and Wholesome Christian Speech.
9. Replace bitterness, anger, and evil ways with compassion, forgiveness, and gracious ways (4:30-32).
See 8 Ways to Overcome Bitterness.
A tall order? Yes! But as we walk in obedience to our Lord, we grow in “fullness of Christ” (4:13), in steadiness of faith (4:14), and in maturity (4:15) because we are renewing our minds and hearts (4:22-23).
