Tomorrow is Earth Day, and I want to proclaim: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” Psalm 24:1
“Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world.” According to Earth Day proponents, “A fresh and frustrated generation of young people are refusing to settle for platitudes” and are “taking to the streets by the millions to demand a new way forward.” (Earth Day History)
Christians wholeheartedly agree that we should be good stewards of our earthly environment, but our most serious problems stem from our neglect of Father God, not our neglect of “Mother Earth.”
Our culture daily spews out toxic waste. Perversion and evil erode the foundations of wisdom and reason. Confused people dive into polluted pools of sin and deception.
“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3
We know that the earth is the Lord’s, and we know that He alone can save us from sin's toxic death. Our passion for God must be stronger, firmer, and more consistent than the world’s passion for godlessness.
So on this Earth Day, let’s celebrate our God who created the earth and everything in it! And let's share His plan for life with others.
