20/20 Vision: Seeing the Eternal

As an introduction to the 20/20 Series, read Asking God for 20/20 Spiritual Vision.

Satan wants us focused on the temporal so we’ll forget the eternal. This 1-minute devotion encourages us to have 20/20 Spiritual vision. #BibleLoveNotes #Devotions #Bible

Most people focus on material wealth, worldly fame, and the praise of men.

But Christians with 20/20 spiritual vision see things eternally:

1. They focus on eternal treasure, not earthly wealth.
They “cast but a glance at riches because they realize that worldly wealth is unstable and insignificant compared to eternal treasure (Proverbs 23:5; 1 Timothy 6:6-8, 17-19).

2. They focus on God's approval, not the approval of the world.
They are willing to be insulted and hated by men in order to serve God (Matthew 5:11-12; John 15:18; Galatians 1:10).

3. They focus on knowing God.
They realize that developing godliness has value for this life and for eternity (1 Timothy 4:8; Jeremiah 9:23-24).

Christians with 20/20 spiritual vision realize that if their eyes are on earthly treasures, their hearts will be earthly as well (Matthew 6:19-21). They refuse to let that happen.

They won't let the "thorns" of this world choke out God's Word in their lives (Matthew 13:22).

What are your eyes focused on?

Praying through the passages below can help:

Matthew 6:19-21: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

1 John 2:15-17: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."
