Take time today to reflect on the dying words of our Savior:
1. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34).
Even the soldiers who nailed Him to the cross could find forgiveness if they desired it! (More about this statement: God Does Not Save Unrepentant Men.)
2. “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43).
Jesus assures this dying criminal he will be in heaven that very day! There are many layers of truth in that statement! (More about this statement: What Christ's Promise to the Thief Revealed.)
3. “Woman, here is your son,” (John 19:26-27).
Jesus uses one of his last statements to emphasize honor for parents.
(More about this statement: Honoring Parents.)
4. “"Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?").” (Matthew 27:46; prophesied in Psalm 22:1).
The worst pain Jesus suffered for us – when the Father looked away as He bore the full punishment for our sins.
(More about this statement: God Forsaking God.)
5. “I thirst!” (John 19:28; prophesied in Psalm 69:21).
Fully human, Christ suffered physically, emotionally, and spiritually for our sins.
(More about this statement: Merciful and Faithful is Our Jesus.)
6. “It is finished!” (John 19:30).
Death met its match! Christ accomplished what no man could. (More about this statement: No More Whispering.)
7. “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit” (Luke 23:46).
This statement gives us a glimpse into the mystery and beauty of Christ's relationship with the Father.
