Jesus died between two criminals (Luke 23:39-43).
One hurled insults at him.
The other said, “Don’t you fear God…we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
There are many layers of beautiful truth in this statement:
1. This man genuinely believed. Few men have faith in the resurrected Jesus, but this man believed in a dying Savior before His proof of victory over death and sin (John 20:29).
2. This man admitted his sin, an essential part of salvation (Matthew 4:17).
3. This man was saved. That means a deathbed conversion saves a man if he is sincere (Matthew 20:1-16).
4. Jesus promised paradise that very day. To be away from the body is to be present with Christ (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Jesus knew this man’s story and saw his heart. The same is true for you and me!

ReplyDeleteGLORY to our LORD...HE is a most loving and generous GOD. Even when they beat Him, stabbed Him, spit, drove nails in HIS hands and feet. Gave HIM a crown of thorns, mocked and ridiculed HIM. HE still managed to fulfill HIS FATHER's words and show MERCY to the thief. GLORY BE TO JESUS!!!
ReplyDeleteWow imagine the man thaanging on the cross with Jesus was told...today you will be with me in paradise... wish it was me? Life as a Christian is so difficult because the devil is always tempting me, and I fall and then I feel so unworthy and I am also thinking how can I enter heaven the way I am? But Jesus is risen and carried our sins on the cross. Even a person on death row can get forgivnes for his sins the Bible tells us. So let us focus on the cross.
