Whose Worth?

There is a popular half-truth circulating about God's Grace and Our Worth. This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

I hear this frequently when people discuss Christ's death: "Isn't it wonderful to know we were worth dying for."

But they're missing the point. The most amazing thing about Christ's sacrifice is GRACE.

Grace means UNDESERVED favor.

I rarely use all caps, but this is important.

We not only can't earn Christ's salvation. We don't deserve it.

To say we were worth Christ's death means Christ simply made a reasonable transaction.

No way!

This describes you and me before we accepted Christ:
"There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands ... All have turned away, they have together become worthless..." Romans 3:10-12

God's love and sacrifice are undeserved. Our worth is the result of what Christ did, not the cause.

That makes Him, not us, worthy of esteem.

  4. Just a few words for thought. What you have stated here is very true, but here is another perspective that immediately came to my mind. Even though I have never made a comment like that myself, I could see how a person could say that and be implying that because God is love, and His love is so great, and we ARE so sinful & worthless as compared to our perfect God; it is wonderful that He still was willing to sacrifice so much for us. God has placed the worth on us because of His perfect character, not of anything in ourselves or because we deserve it. So in this context; I personally do think it IS wonderful that God has considered us worth (value placed on us by God, not of ourselves) what He went through so we can have eternal life.
