A Sinful, Unnecessary Waste of Time

Many people waste huge portions of their lives doing this. Do you? This 1-minute devotion explains.

Worry wastes our time and resources...

One morning I awoke to a challenge—a difficult situation.

I spent the next six hours trying to think of ways to solve my problem.

I wrote a couple of emails I didn't send, complained to my husband, and did a bunch of fretting. Basically, "I starved all day and grew weak."

Then, I remembered what I needed, pulled out my Bible and journal, went out on my patio, and had some time with the Lord.

It changed my perspective completely because I drew my nourishment from Scripture. I could have done this hours earlier if I'd fed on the Word instead feeding my fears and frustrations.

I was nibbling on junk food when I could have had life-sustaining nutrition for my spirit.

"Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. For the word of God is alive and active.… it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Matthew 4:4 & Hebrews 4:12

  3. It's unbelievable to me, Gail, how often I forget that prayer is something I can do in the middle of the day when I need guidance. Great post!

  4. Great post Gail. It's so easy to get off track and spend time fretting over our concerns instead of just placing them at His feet.

  6. Didn't Jesus worry in the Garden of Gesthemane? If not, what do you call it?

    1. Hi Kellifornia,

Scripture makes it very clear that worry is a sin. I'm not aware of any passages that speak of worry in a positive sense. Are you?

And Scripture makes it very clear that Jesus never sinned.

What Jesus experienced in the Garden was deep sorrow and anguish of the soul in preparation for bearing our sins and being separated from the Father.

But for the sake of argument, let's say what Jesus did was worry in the Garden. Then, I guess we could conclude that if we were preparing to die for the sins of the world, worry is not a sin.
