Killdeer Love & God's Love

If you don't know about the Killdeer's way of protecting its young, you will be blessed by this 1-minute devotion. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

She acted like she was hurt, drawing my husband’s attention away from her unborn children.

Only an amazing God could create this bird.

She's altruistic…self-sacrificing…it’s part of her nature to offer her life to save the lives of her future children still in their eggs.

In fact, this bird named killdeer will sometimes even charge an oncoming cow or horse in an attempt to save her eggs.

The analogy is obvious.

Christ gave His life for the children of God…past, present and those still unborn.

This killdeer mother who laid her eggs in the stones of our flower bed is one of many examples of God’s divine nature in creation.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…” Romans 1:20

Today take time to look for signs of God in your surroundings.

  1. Gail, thank you so much for sharing this with us. God's creation is so amazing! I found it so incredible how she laid her eggs amongst the pebbles which look almost identical to the eggs, no predator would recognize them.

  3. We have tons of Killdeer around us; they are such funny little birds. I am always amazed by giraffes. They are born backwards with their neck along their back, so their nose and rear legs come first. I am pretty sure they couldn't come up with that on accident! The species never would have survived while evolving to it!

  7. At one of my class reunions a few years back, we all went outside, so the photographer could take a group picture. A mama Killdeer stood her ground, only a few feet from our group. She never wavered!

  8. Nature is a reflection of God’s love and awesomeness! Every time I look at a flower, a sunset, a grain of sand I just open my mouth and tell God how wonderful He is. Lou Ann isn’t it incredible when we compare our Lord to the bird we see He is love is steadfast and unwavering. Thanks for sharing this Gail, you are a blessing to us every day.

  10. We had a gravel section at the end of our driveway and one year a killdeer laid her eggs right in the middle if it. We had to drive over her eggs to get out onto the street. She would sit there as long as she could before getting up and with flapping wings act as if she was dying all to keep us from seeing the eggs. My husband made a small wire ring so we could see to gage our distance as we backed out down the driveway.Unfortunately a raccoon found the eggs before they hatched. But they are a delight to watch their sacrifice and know they are truly a gift.
