It's Not What You Have—It's How You Use What You Have that Counts.

Let's not make the mistake of this famous Bible character. Let's use our gifts fully and faithfully. This 1-min. devotion explains.

God has purposes for all of us:

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

He gives us whatever skills we need to accomplish the things He's designed us to do. So why is it that in most churches 10% of the people do 90% of the ministry?

It makes me think of a famous man who was given exceptional wisdom, favor, and wealth but foolishly wasted it.

I'm referring to King Solomon. God praised him for his choices early in his life, giving him wealth, wisdom, opportunity, power, and prestige (1 Kings 3:4-13; 4:29-34).

But in his later years, Solomon turned away from God for the love of pagan women, pagan gods, and Egyptian horses (1 Kings 11:1-11; Deuteronomy 17:16; 1 Kings 10:26-28).

Solomon proved that it’s not how many skills and opportunities we have that matters. What matters most is whether we use those skills and opportunities for God's purposes (Colossians 3:17; 1Peter 4:11).

We must guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23). And we should remember this important truth: on Judgment Day God will reward those who did their best to serve and honor Him (1 Corinthians 3:11-15; Colossians 3:23-24).

Dear Lord, help us use the gifts you have given us fully, faithfully, and freely.

  6. It's so true. We can never let our guard down on our hearts. No matter how old and "wise" we become.
