Christ's final words on earth were not a deathbed wish. They are every Christian's “marching orders,” shared by our very alive Savior.
When we know Christ, we're saved, forgiven, and commissioned!
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).
Notice these important elements of our mission:
1. All authority.
We're empowered by God's Spirit, authority, and strength, not our own. See Philippians 4:13; 2 Corinthians 12:9; 1 Corinthians 16:13 for encouragement.
2. All nations.
Christianity is the only true faith, the only way of salvation. See John 3:36; 14:6; Acts 4:12 for confirmation.
3. Teaching them to obey.
We are not saved by obedience, but everyone who genuinely follows Christ seeks to obey His commands. Why? Because we love our Savior. See John 14:21,23; 15:10; 1 John 2:3; 5:3; 2 John 1:6 for confirmation of this truth.
4. Christ is with us always.
Nothing can separate true believers from the love of Christ. Enjoy this truth in Romans 8:37-39.
Yes! Christ's final words on earth are incredibly important, giving us our marching orders.
