Would You Be Singing in Prison after a Beating?

If you want to be inspired by some wonderful saints who loved God passionately, read this devotion!

Psalm 134 is only three verses long and less than fifty English words, but I recently found such wonderful truths in the first verse alone:

“Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord.”

In the instructions for the tabernacle in Exodus 27:21, God commanded the priests “to keep the lamps burning in the Lord's presence all night.”

This made me think of several important Bible truths:

🌟 God's Word is the lamp to our feet and the light to our path no matter how dark life may seem (Psalm 119:105).

🌟 Jesus is the Light of the world who keeps us from walking in darkness (John 8:12).

🌟 Christians are called to be lights in our dark world, shining to bring God glory (Matthew 5:16).

A wonderful illustration of light shining in the dark of night is the ministry of Paul and Silas in Acts 16. They were unjustly beaten and thrown into prison. But in the midst of such darkness, “about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them” (v. 25).

I encourage you to read all of Acts 16 because it’s an amazing story of “servants who minister by night in the house of the Lord.”

Our world is dark at this point in history. God's Word is mocked, sin is celebrated, and God's people are unjustly criticized.

Let's shine, dear Christians, let's shine!
