It's easy to get along with people when we're in agreement. But our maturity and the quality of our faith are tested by disagreements (James 1:2-5).
💙 Do we listen?
Proverbs 18:13: “Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.”
💙 Do we think before speaking?
Proverbs 15:28: “The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.”
💙 Do we express ourselves graciously?
Proverbs 18:6-7: “The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives.”
💙 Do we speak with humility?
Proverbs 21:24: “Mockers are proud and haughty; they act with boundless arrogance.”
If we apply the two verses below to our relationships, it will solve many a problem.
Philippians 2:3-4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Lastly, if
we come to a discussion simply wanting to air our view, make
accusations, or demand people see things our way, we should listen to the wisdom in this final verse:
Proverbs 17:28: “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.”

Seasoned with SaltDon't you love the practical and sometimes humorous wisdom of Proverbs? I do! And that's one reason I enjoyed writing my book Wisdom for Life which is based on Psalms and Proverbs. In my book I share all sorts of practical ways we can apply the proverbs to our everyday life. If you want to check out Wisdom for Life, you can read the first four devotions by clicking "look inside" or "read sample." on Amazon or Lifeway. Those first four are based on psalms, but there are 100 one-minute devotions in the book, so you'll be inspired by many proverbs as well!
What bothers me as much, maybe even more, is the frequency with which Jesus' + God's names are used as curse words in TV shows + movies.
