Making Music in Our Hearts is Healthy for Our Souls

This Psalm offers a wonderful suggestion for keeping our hearts and our souls healthy!

Some people are gifted singers and musicians. Others are not. And most of us are somewhere in between. But that doesn’t really matter because singing God’s praises is good for our souls.

Many of the psalms encourage us to sing to the Lord, and it shouldn’t be limited to worship services.

We have so much to sing about: a God who has redeemed us from death, who daily bears our burdens, who comforts us in our sorrows, who guides us in His wisdom (John 3:16; Psalm 68:19; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4; Proverbs 3:5-6).

Sometimes we should sing audibly, but we can also make music in our hearts without singing a word out loud.

“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:18-20

“It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.” Psalm 92:1-2

So tomorrow morning when you wake up, why not “make music in your heart” by reminding yourself of the many ways God has shown you His love, starting with your salvation.

Then, before you go to sleep, why not make “music in your heart” by reminding yourself of ways God has faithfully brought you through trials and temptations.

One of the devotions in my book Wisdom for Life is titled Sacred Songs, and it talks about how God uses music in our lives.

I love the wisdom we find in the Psalms. That's one of many reasons I wrote Wisdom for Life, my book that features 100 one-minute devotions from Psalms and Proverbs. I explain my reasons for writing this book HERE.
