Simple, Profound, True

Jesus Loves Me This I Know, hymn, Anna Warner, Susan Warner, William Bradbury, Karl Barth
In the 1800’s Anna Warner wrote a poem that her sister Susan included in one of her popular Christian novels. William Bradbury discovered the poem, added a refrain, and put it to music.

The first two lines of the poem are perhaps the most well known of any Christian hymn:

Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so.

When Karl Barth, a well-known twentieth century theologian, was asked to summarize the most profound truths from the thousands of pages of Christian theology books he'd written, he said,

“Jesus loves me! this I know, For the Bible tells me so.”

Easy enough for a child, accurate enough for a theologian.

May I never forget this profound, magnificent, wonderful truth:

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so!

"God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life." John 3:16

  1. I just want to take a moment to tell you what a blessing your Bible love notes and 5 minute Bible studies have been to me since I found you on Pinterest. Thank you for your faithfulness in this ministry.
Thank you, too, for reminding us of that simple truth. Jesus does love us, and we can know it because His trustworthy word, the Bible, tells us so.
