We are living in spiritually difficult times. The foundations of logic and wisdom are being destroyed and God’s people are increasingly despised and persecuted (Psalm 11:3; 1 Peter 4:12-15).
One of the hardest things we face is rejection from friends and family members who have walked away from their Christian upbringing. Many of these loved ones not only reject biblical faith, they judge, reject, and slander family members who remain faithful.
In addition, some family members who never professed Christ are emboldened by culture to be more acrid in their criticisms of our faith.
As the psalmists explain, it's especially painful when a loved ones rejects us (Psalm 41:9 and Psalm 55:12-14), but Christ warned us that could happen:
“For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’” Matthew 10:35-36*
But we have a God who understands our rejection and sorrow, and He says:
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

* Note: Matthew 10:37 which follows these verses tells us to remember that our relationship with the Lord is more important than any earthly relationship: Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
