Romans 12:9 - Biblical Love Hates Sin

Romans 12:9 gives a powerful, relevant description of what true biblical love means.

Some verses in Scripture are so rich and meaningful, so powerful and relevant. For example, Romans 12:9

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."

Biblical love is not simply a feeling. It’s a conviction, a hatred for the sins which damage people’s souls.

If we have biblical love, we love people enough to warn them not to mock God, commit adultery, steal, lie, covet, etc. (See The 10 Commandments.)

We love homosexuals and transgender people enough to tell them that their lifestyles will damage their souls.

We love father, mother, and child enough to speak strongly against abortion

We don’t accept culture's views when they conflict with God’s Word because biblical love “comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5).

If we don't hate evil, we ruin our conscience and shipwreck our faith (1 Timothy 1:19).

We share God's truths graciously even when culture calls us "hateful." We won't be shamed into silence because we answer to God, not man:

“Even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. ‘Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.’”  ~ 1 Peter 3:14

  1. I agree completely, Tracy. I think we are already facing censorship and it will turn to persecution. May God give us the strength to stand!
