3 More Aspects of Foolishness

These truths from Proverbs help us identify and avoid foolishness.

In 3 Ways to Identify a Fool, we looked at 3 aspects of foolishness found in the book of Proverbs. Let's look at 3 more, remembering that we must guard our hearts against foolishness.

1. Fools are easily offended and let people know it.

“Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult.” Proverbs 12:16

“A fool's mouth lashes out with pride, but the lips of the wise protect them.” Proverbs 14:3

“The wise fear the LORD and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.” Proverbs 14:16

See also Proverbs 29:9, 29:11, and 2 Step Process for Overcoming Anger.

2. Fools surround themselves with other fools.

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20

3. Fools are often wasteful, lazy, and/or indulgent.

“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” Proverbs 14:1

The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” Proverbs 21:20

Fools thrive on petty grievances. They seek out counselors and companions who affirm them. They waste their time and resources.

Are you foolish in any of these areas? Ask the Lord to help you overcome foolishness with His wisdom.
