“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
We must be aware that we are living in a world where the majority of people are misled, blinded about right and wrong, and ignorant of evil forces.
Sadly, many Christians are being misled as well. For example, some months ago, a UK reader of Bible Love Notes sent me an email explaining how evil the United States and our government are in every way. She wasn't trying to offend me. She thought she was simply stating a “fact.”
It surprised me that foreigners would assume we Americans think our whole country and all of our leaders are evil. But then I thought of modern news reporting and how it so often reports opinions and propaganda instead of facts.
Let me start with this explanation of the respected BBC, the most popular news source in the UK:
“The BBC is by far the most widely used source of news in the UK both online and offline, and it is one of the most highly trusted sources of news. It is also more widely used as a source of news than many of its peers among other public service media. According to the BBC itself, it also reaches more than 400 million people globally with news every week.” (source)
However, the BBC doesn't simply present the news, they sometimes cut and paste it together to create fiction. For example, they spliced together a Trump speech to make it look like he said something he never said:
“A Panorama programme, broadcast a week before the US election, ‘completely misled’ viewers by showing the president telling supporters he was going to walk to the Capitol with them to ‘fight like hell,’ when in fact he said he would walk with them ‘to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.’” (source)
To further confirm the bias of the BBC, in 2025 the BBC “censured one of its presenters for referring to Hamas as a ‘terror group,’ ruling the phrase breached editorial guidelines.” (source)
“By any measure, the Hamas attack [on 10-7-23] is one of the worst acts of international terrorism on record. Aided by small numbers of terrorists from other groups such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hamas operatives murdered some 1,200 people in Israel and wounded over 4,200. They also kidnapped over 200 people from twenty-two countries.… Babies slaughtered. Bodies desecrated. Young people burned alive. Women raped. Parents executed in front of their children, children in front of their parents.” (The Washington Institute)
But calling Hamas a terror group breaches the BBC's editorial guidelines.
Hamas gets respect, while lies are shared about an American leader.
And it's not simply splicing Trump's speech to make him look bad. A few days ago I listened to a BBC video interview with Anthony Scaramucci, a former White House Communications Director. He only held his job with the Trump administration for ten days because he gave a profanity-laced interview that rudely degraded specific people in the Trump administration. (source)
What reason would the BBC have for setting up an interview with such a person? It became clear when I watched it.
In this BBC televised interview, Scaramucci claimed, “The Republicans hate [Trump]. If you talk to them privately, they all hate him, and they want him out - but they're afraid of him.”
The comment section below this video clip was filled with people who fully believed this propaganda, and they made rude condemnations of all Republicans as evil cowards or worse.
Only a fool would believe that one person would know what “all” Republicans believe.
Only a fool would believe that a man who couldn't hold his job with the administration for longer than ten days would be someone in whom many Republicans would confide.
But, according to the comment section, there are a majority of fools in our world who will believe anything they're told.
The BBC is not alone. This is but one example of propaganda in our world. Similar lies-in-disguise can be found on U.S. news sources and news sources around the globe.
And this is not something that's simply political. It concerns values and religions and morals. It is the way totalitarian takeovers occur, the way false teachers deceive people.
There are two reasons this propaganda thrives. One is the fact, as explained in God's Word, that unbelievers are blinded by God's enemy (2 Cor. 4:4).
But there are also people working for God's enemy who are not blinded to the truth. Like the BBC, they choose to spread lies to mislead people because the truth doesn't fit their agenda.
More than ever before, Christians, we must guard against propaganda, refusing to believe everything we hear without doing some research on our own. And this is doubly important when it comes to Bible teaching. We must check everything with Scripture.
The only reason the antichrist will succeed in the end times is that many people will spread lies and many people will believe the lies.
We must be alert, aware, and discerning, or we will fall for Satan's lies (1 Peter 5:8).
“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” 1 John 5:19
