Benefits of Christian Community

This 1-minute devotion explains 3 important benefits of having regular fellowship with other believers.

This post was originally published regarding our need for social interaction during Covid-19. It has been updated because it applies to all times.

God designed fellowship for our spiritual and emotional health:

1. It gives us a spiritual family.

Ephesians 2:19: You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.

2. It helps us grow in our faith and gives us opportunities to help others grow in their faith.

Ephesians 4:15-16
: Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

3. It allows us to give and receive encouragement.

Galatians 6:2: Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Romans 12:10: Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Galatians 6:10: Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

God places a high priority on fellowship with other believers. If you are not part of a fellowship group, I encourage you to find one. If you find yourself in a situation where you are unable to stay connected in person, find ways to have fellowship using technology (email, phone, Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp, Signal, etc.)

Fellowship with other believers is essential for our spiritual and emotional health!

  1. Good reminder.

Should point #2 be: 2. We need others to grow in THEIR faith?

    1. Hi David,

No, the point I was making (and the point this Scripture passage is making) is that we grow in our faith as we interact with others.

We grow when we deal with difficult, selfish people because we learn how to be gracious, speaking the truth in love, and forgiving them.

We grow because we interact with others who "mentor" us in our faith and help us grow and mature.

So #2 is worded the way I meant it to be worded. Hope that clarifies that point.
      God bless you.

  2. Dear family of the Lord, thanks for making up time to encourage us in these evil times! We have been reading Exodus 18:1-12, he we can see how hard it was for Moses, and the Israelites to flee the hand of Pharaoh. Today, itsi this same thing affecting us all and Christian need to know! There has been a long mission to make people hope in everything in this world, so trying all we can to adapt to all succumstances! No, the end of everything is near, everything will pass away last, God has determined this case upon those who sit o. Earth. Isiah 24:1-8. God bless you!
