The Oldest Sin in the Book

An interesting look at the very first sin committed on earth, a sin that modern Christians are committing at an alarming rate. This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

God’s Word can change us. We can’t change it.

God is our Designer and Creator. We aren’t God’s designer and creator.

Some people forget this truth and decide that parts of God’s Word are no longer relevant. They may suggest that Scripture has been misunderstood. Or they may argue that since God created sexual intimacy, He wouldn't forbid homosexuality or premarital sex. Whatever their reasoning, they allow modern teachers to suggest God's Word contains errors.

And when they do this, they’re committing the oldest sin in the Book - not one of the oldest, but THE oldest sin.

God told man he would die if he ate the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:16-17).

Satan told Eve she wouldn’t die. She’d become like God. So she ate it (Genesis 3:4-6).

Perhaps Eve decided God’s Word was no longer relevant. Perhaps she thought Adam had misunderstood God’s command. She knew God loved fruit, so why would He forbid this particular variety? Whatever her reasoning, she let Satan suggest that God’s warning wasn't true.

Just like Satan was behind Eve’s downfall, he’s behind any modern teaching that questions or denies God's Word.

Let's deepen our trust in God and His Word by pondering these passages:

💙 2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
💙 Hebrews 4:12: "The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
💙 Psalm 119:103-105: "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

  1. Satan told Eve she would become like God, which is the same sin Satan committed when he tried to be like God: pride, the worst deadly sin.

Again, we should practice humility as an antidote to pride.

  2. Amen. Thank you for the reminder about such an important topic. We talk about it from such a different perspective like stopping people from experiencing heart break and giving up on marriage due to wrong dating but thank you for reminding me God put this there for a reason
