It's not popular to talk about sin.
Some folks would like to think that Jesus never talked about sin unless he was rebuking Pharisees. And they think the reason He rebuked Pharisees was because they talked too much about sin.
Is this true? Was Jesus a non-confrontational teacher, affirming people and making them feel comfortable?
Jesus Himself refutes that belief. Talking to His unbelieving brothers, Jesus said, "The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil" (John 7:7).
Jesus repeatedly talked about repentance from sin (e.g. Luke 24:45-47).
And Jesus preached a type of repentance that changes us from the inside out, a repentance that changes our hearts toward God and toward our fellowman, not simply our behavior.
When we genuinely repent of sin, we affirm God's authority in our lives (1 John 1:8-10).
Jesus talked about sin and so should we.
If we don't understand the deadly power of sin, we will never understand the wonderful, undeserved, life-giving power of God's grace.💙
