#2: Blessed are Those who Mourn

Let's take a look at the second beatitude: what godly sorrow looks like. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

"Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted."

1. Those who mourn past sins will be comforted.

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret.” 2 Corinthians 7:10

The sorrow of repentance brings the comfort of forgiveness (1 John 1:9).

2. Those who mourn mankind's rebellion will be comforted.

Jeremiah loved God and he daily grieved over the rebellion of his countrymen (e.g. Jeremiah 23:9-10).

When we mourn evil, we find comfort in pleasing God (Ephesians 5:8-11).

3. Those who mourn earthly difficulties will be comforted.

We cannot help but mourn when we are suffering, but this sorrow is mixed with joy because we receive God's comfort and our faith is strengthened (Romans 12:15; 2 Corinthians 1:3-5; 1 Peter 1:6-7).

Godly sorrow always produces comfort: a clean conscience, a deeper desire to please God, and a greater trust in God.

Blessed are those who mourn.
