"Dead" People Have New Purposes
Christ says only those who die to themselves will find true life in Him (Matthew 16:25). In fact, he says those who refuse to die to themselves are not worthy of Him (Matthew 10:38).
One aspect of dying to ourselves is dying to selfish purposes for our lives.
This doesn’t mean we all sign up as foreign missionaries. God doesn’t call everyone to professional Christian work, but He has plans and purposes for each of us.
“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
Note some elements of this wonderful promise:
1. We’re gifted.
We’re God’s handiwork, His masterpiece, His workmanship. He has given us the gifts we need to accomplish the purposes He’s designed for us (Ephesians 4:7-8). See Are you a Signed or Unsigned Masterpiece?
2. We’re created in Christ Jesus.
We can do nothing of value apart from Christ (John 15:5). But we can do anything He calls us to do (Philippians 4:13).
3. God has designed things specifically for us to do!
How cool is that! See Life Expectancy and Ephesians 2:10.
The choice is ours: His purposes or ours.
And the beauty of this promise is this: When we die to ourselves, His purposes become our purposes!
