George Washington Carver - He Overcame Evil

George Washington Carver was a brilliant man with a forgiving heart and deep desire to serve the Lord. He did amazing things even though he was born a slave.

George Washington Carver returned good for evil...

Born a slave, George never knew his mother. The corrupt system of slavery that damaged the American conscience for so many years, brought great harm to George and his race.

Even after he gained his freedom and became a genius in science, technology and agriculture, George was treated with less dignity than his white peers.

But George Washington Carver served God, not man, and he showed remarkable kindness toward the Southern culture that had brought him such harm.

Were it not for his agricultural experiments and discoveries, the South could not have survived. He showed farmers how to replace cotton crops (which had continual insect infestations and weren't profitable without slave labor) with peanuts, sweet potatoes and pecans. And he discovered and invented a number of uses for these crops never known before.

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21

How can you overcome evil with good in your sphere today?

  2. Mr. Carver was a brilliant man because he did what he did for God's glory. :-) I always like being reminded that we can do great things when we are trying to please God!

One thing I feel needs to be pointed out... You mentioned "his race". When we look at people as being different "races", that is where division starts. All people, regardless of nationality or skin color, are people; we are all part of One Race: the Human Race. God didn't create a dark skinned Adam and Eve and a light skinned Adam and Eve; He created Adam and Eve. From the Flood, we are all descendants of Noah and his 3 sons: all one family. We all have different views and beliefs (unfortunately not all people love God), but we are all one race. If we were different races, we couldn't marry, like cats and dogs. :-)

Sorry to ramble. I do enjoy your devotions and they help me to get a little Bible time every day. :-)

    1. His race is important because he was marginalized because of his "race."
