Things that Make Me Sad—Adam

Do you know that the first clue about Jesus is found in Genesis? This 1-minute devotion explains.

Genesis 1-3 makes me sad.

Adam was the first human being God created, the first who felt the breath of life. He walked and talked with God in a garden paradise and had the companionship of Eve. What more could any human being want?

But Adam did the unimaginable.

He chose to disobey the only rule God commanded him to obey. And he wasn't even deceived. He knew what he was doing, but he did it anyway (1 Timothy 2:14).

When God caught him, he blame-shifted his sin onto Eve! (Genesis 3:12

But this is the part that really blows my mind. This is the part that turns my sadness into incredible joy and gratitude: God didn't destroy him!

He gave Adam another chance, and He gave us a clue about the way His Son would overcome the sin and death Adam brought into the world (Genesis 3:15).

My sadness over Adam's sin is only exceeded by my awe for God's incredible love.

Genesis 3:15 was a prophecy of what Christ would do to the serpent Satan. Satan (the serpent) did "strike at Christ's heel" (i.e. inflict a wound on the cross), but Christ crushed Satan's head (inflicted a fatal blow) by His death and resurrection. Theologians call this verse protoevangelium. See also Romans 16:20.

  1. Thank you for explaining the bible verse so clearly. I have never understood it before! And yes, how wonderful to walk and talk to God in the garden of Eden - and how sad to throw it all away in one moment of weakness.

  5. Thank you for explaining.I figured that is was the verse meaning, but it confirmed I also lovw the way you stated how Adam blamed the woman and God. When he had one specific order from God I hear so many people blame Eve comma but in the end of God gives you a direct order it doesn't matter if it's your children husband wife you obey God's instructions
