Spice it Up!

6 Ways to spice up your quiet time, making your quiet time more meaningful and interesting
Variety is the spice of life...and sometimes we let our time with the Lord get stale and bland.

So here's some ideas to change it out a bit:

1. Weekly Coffee Date: Go to a coffee shop alone with Jesus and spend time with Him your favorite way: journaling, praying or reading.

2. Daily Prayer Walk: combine spiritual and physical exercise.

3. Clock Alarm: to remind yourself throughout the day to sing a praise song or pray for specific needs.

4. 3x5 Prayer Cards: with Scriptures and prayer needs to go through each day or carry with you to use when waiting somewhere.

5. Bathroom Mirror Reminder: Scripture taped to a mirror to read until you've memorized it.

6. Prayer Triggers: letting daily activities remind you to seek God for a few moments (e.g. whenever you have coffee or get into your car).

Now it’s your turn…what things do you do to add some spice to your relationship with the Lord?

  1. What neat ideas! For some reason the alarm clock appeals to me. . . not sure how the rest of my household would like it going off a couple of times during the day, but they could also be included. :)

  2. This I had to print!! I have been writing Bible verses on 3 X 5 cards to put around but also to put it a recipe box to look up easily when I need them most. I should take a walk to pray, I haven't been outside enough lately. I also like the idea of a 'coffee date' with the Lord, though, I think I'll drink something else besides coffee, LOL.

Gail, you always have great ideas and wonderful posts. I have been really busy but always have time to squeeze 'one minute' in to read your Bible Notes. Thanks always.

  3. This is such a beautiful site and I am glad that God directed me here through you! It's too easy to just go about life with God quietly in the background when he really wants to be an active part of it all. Your ideas are a very nice push in the right direction. Thank you!

  4. Great ideas. These remind me of the book The Practice of the Presence of God, where the author meditates on one particular phrase about God or a scripture all day long. Anything that reminds us to focus on The Lord in our daily walk! I like the clock idea.

  5. Visiting from Mommy Moments. I love the prayer walk. I actually like when I am able to go on my walks alone so I can have some time with the Lord just being honest with Him.

  7. I like the idea of a coffee date with God! It's like a daddy daughter date :) Sometimes I make quiet time into just another duty. This would really make it a privilege and it would be good to get out of the house every once in a while. Thanks for sharing!
