Children's Play Nativity: Helping Kids Focus on Christ

Children's Play Nativity - a way to engage your children with the story of Christ's birth.

I love finding ways to interact with my grandchildren about the real meaning of Christmas. As a grandmother, I want my faith to be central to every holiday and I want to help my seven grandchildren think about and enjoy the story of Christ's birth.

So I decided to make this kid-friendly nativity.

I found these great free printables online. But they are no longer available so I recommend that you google "free children's nativity printable." There are other good sets out there and you can follow the same directions I used for mine.

I printed them and cut them out.

Then I put them in laminating sheets. If you don't have a laminating machine, you could use clear contact paper.

I laminated them.

Then I cut the laminated figures out, leaving a border around each.

My husband super glued each figure to a craft stick. He's the super glue expert in our house 😊

I used colored sticks, but you could use plain.

Then I put them in an unfinished wood box for storage/display.

My grandkids enjoyed them and it was one small way I could incorporate Jesus into our holiday.

  1. I sent this link to my daughter, who works in a school for the deaf, and the person who runs our Sunday School. I think this is a great idea for each child to have to take home. It might be the only Nativity some have in their homes. Thanks so much for sharing this idea!

  2. Such a smart idea to laminate them. I had seen the printables before and planned to print and cutout for my grandsons, but I hadn't considered laminating them. Smart lady. Thank you!

    1. Thank you, Lisa. They wouldn't have lasted long with my grandchildren if I hadn't laminated them.

    1. Yes, it would be best on card stock. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

  4. This is very fun! We have been doing Truth in Tinsel, which makes an ornament each day based on some part of the Christmas story. I love these little people and might make my own set. I've been wanting to buy the little people nativity, but this will be cheaper! Also, I've been thinking about buying a laminating machine? Do you think it's worth it? I'm a home day care provider and I laminate about 2 sheets a week. Thanks for sharing!

  11. aww that's super cute. I always glue my fingers together when I super glue things so I think your decision to delegate that chore was very very wise ;p
