Ephesians 3:17 - Rooted in Love

Below I share my journal thoughts about Ephesians 3:16-18, specifically verse 17:

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ..

Roots provide nutrients and stability to a plant, and that's what we need if we are going to grow properly in Christ.

It's always helpful to study similar passages, and I found several other passages about "roots" that helped add meaning to this passage:

Jeremiah 7:17-18“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. 8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Colossians 2:6-7
: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
 

Creative journaling: I drew a picture of the important elements in this passage: 

1. Here thoughts: Understanding that God's love is beyond understanding.

2. Having Christ in our hearts through faith.

3. Being rooted and established in God's love.

After studying and journaling this passage, I wrote a devotion on this passage called Rooted and Established in Love.
