Our world admires confident people with high self-esteem and very little humility. They are the ones most often placed in positions of authority and leadership.
Self-promotion and bragging were once considered ungodly, but they've become quite acceptable in modern culture.
What about God? Is he looking for people who are self-confident and self-assured? Let's look at some examples:
⮚ One of the most important leaders in the Old Testament is Moses. Exodus 3:11–4:16 explains that when God called him to lead, Moses felt completely unworthy and incapable. But God assured Moses that He would give him the power, wisdom, and strength he needed.
⮚ Then there's the time the centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant, making it clear that he was unworthy of Christ's presence in his home. And Jesus was amazed at this man's humility and faith (Matthew 8:5-13).
⮚ And what about the Apostle Paul? He was one of the most fantastic evangelists and teachers who ever lived, but he made this statement: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst” (1 Timothy 1:15).
All of these people were capable of leadership, but they weren't depending on themselves. They were depending on God. That is the kind of person God uses.
Who are you depending on in life?
