Do You Know You Can Become Spiritually Dehydrated?

If you're "spiritually dehydrated" drink these 5 glasses of spiritual truth to refill you heart with healing and comfort.

One day before my hip replacement, I started aching all over, not just my hip but in all my muscles and joints. I felt like I needed a body replacement, not just a hip replacement. I was perplexed and the pain pill I took didn't help.

Was it an allergic reaction to something I’d eaten or some chemical or outside pollen? Then something came to mind. We’d had a number of interruptions that day, and I hadn’t drunk my usual amount of water.

So I poured myself a glass of water and drank it, and another, and another…5 total. And the pain gradually subsided.

I hadn't realized how dehydration could affect me.

I often see spiritual analogies in life circumstances, and I thought about my need for Living Water. I've had times when I’ve been filled with the pain of pessimism, seeing everything in a negative light, letting hopelessness set it, and becoming totally self-absorbed.

When that happens, I need to realize I’m “spiritually” dehydrated, and need these 5 glasses of Living Water:

1. A glass of prayer.
2. A glass of thanksgiving.
3. A glass of praise for God.
4. A glass of Scripture.
5. A glass to give to others to help me quit focusing on myself.

“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  Jesus, John 4:14

Don't let yourself get spiritually dehydrated.

Some Scriptures that support the importance of these 5 glasses of Living Water:

Isaiah 58:11: The Lord will guide you always;  he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:16: Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Philippians 2:3-4: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
