Running with Purpose—Hebrews 12:1-2

Enjoy this short poem and 3 suggestions based on Hebrews 12:1-2.

Today's devotion is a bit different than the norm…

Running with Purpose (Hebrews 12:1-2)
by Gail Purath

We have such godly examples,
Inspiring us to enter the race.

But we can't run while holding onto our sins,
Or we'll trip and fall flat on our face.

Let's keep our eyes focused on Jesus,
Remembering our true home is above.

And the end of our race will bring joy upon joy,
Eternally wrapped in God's love.

I encourage you to read the verses below and do these three things:

1. Thank God for Christians who have inspired you to persevere. This can include people in Scripture (Hebrews 11), modern examples you've read about in Christian biographies, and/or friends and family members who have encouraged you to run the race with perseverance.
See Christians Who Inspire Us for some wonderful examples.

2. Ask God if there are things that are keeping you from wholeheartedly fulfilling His purposes for you (Ephesians 2:10). This may be sinful things or simply bad priorities.

3. Praise God for the wonderful example of His Son Jesus! (Hebrews 13:5) We can never praise God enough!

Hebrews 12:1-2:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
