He Thought He was Supporting His View But He Actually Supported Mine

Sometimes our culture makes claims that are without support. Christians need to realize the lack of logic often used when discussing social issues.

Bible Love Notes shares devotions about this important subject so the people of God will be informed and equipped to speak up for truth and for life (Proverbs 31:8-9).

When I expressed my joy at Roe v. Wade being overturned, a foster care worker told me that we needed to keep abortion legal because the foster care system was worse than ever, overloaded with unwanted, abused, and needy children.

Do you hear the inconsistency in this man's statement? He thought he was supporting the need for abortion when he was actually explaining that it made no difference in curbing unwanted children or child abuse.

For 49 years, Roe v. Wade demanded that abortion be available “at any time, for any reason, in any way” (source). Sixty-three million "unwanted" babies died, and the abuse and neglect of children has gotten worse, not better.

When he made his comment, all of the children in the foster care system could legally have been aborted. He was proving that aborting "unwanted" children didn't solve foster care problems or abuse. In fact, I believe the devaluing of unborn children cannot help but affect our nation's attitude toward born children and human life in general.

Like pagan child sacrifice, abortion damages minds, lives, and countries (Psalm 106:37-38). It profanes the name of the Lord (Leviticus 18:21).(1)

When is murder ever a good solution to a problem?

Many Christian and pro-life organizations, churches, and individuals are actively involved in counseling and providing for pregnant women in difficult situations. Please pray that more people will understand that killing unwanted children is never the best solution.

-------------------

Note: Even though this man had spent his life involved in the foster care system, he didn't have accurate information. I researched his claims, and there is no correlation between abortion and fewer children in foster care. In 2016 foster care numbers were at their highest (43 years after Roe made abortion available to all). But after this peak, authorities began making efforts to keep children in their homes providing counseling and help to their birth families, so those numbers began declining because of those efforts unrelated to the availability of abortion. (1) Did you know that some methods of abortion are every bit as cruel as burning children alive? (Partial birth abortion)

To read about the adult victims in every abortion, see the 1-minute devotion Abortion Victims. For a helpful overview of issues where Christians must stand firm and speak up, see A Necessary Explanation. This will take you 3 minutes to read instead of the usual 1-minute, but it's well worth your time!
