The One Thing

Christians are sometimes unjustly stereotyped and this one thing is what sets us apart and causes people to love us or hate us.

Opponents of Christianity are quick to admit that they hate our beliefs and believe our views are evil.

Christians, on the other hand, are hesitant to say we hate anything because we’re already characterized as “haters” by our critics.

Such criticism is unjust because Christianity doesn’t teach hatred of people, and genuine believers don’t behave hatefully.

But there is one thing Christians hate.

When we understand the love of Christ, we have a growing hatred for things that separate people from His love. That’s why we hate sin.

Proverbs 8:13: "To fear the LORD is to hate evil."

Psalm 97:10: "Let those who love the LORD hate evil."

Romans 12:9: "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."

Ephesians 5:11-13: "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light."

If we truly love mankind and truly love God, we will hate the sins that damage people’s hearts, minds, and souls—no matter how popular and accepted those sins become.
