Are You Wearing Praise Today?

Scripture describes a "Garment of Praise" and it's a wonderful concept!

Sometimes life gets us down. We begin to feel worn out and weighed down with burdens. Scripture describes this as a “spirit of heaviness.”(1)

Isaiah 61:1-3 prophecies that Jesus will come “To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”(2)

When life has made us weary, we need a garment of praise.

A garment: Something we put on. Something that covers us. Something that changes how we look and feel.

But this is no regular garment. It’s woven with threads of praise to our Messiah Jesus Christ.

This is similar to the way our sanctification is described in Ephesians 4:22-24 where we’re told to put off the “old man” and put on the “new man” in Christ.

When we’re feeling “heavy,” we need to take off the “mourning clothes” and wrap ourselves in praise for our Lord.

What are you “wearing” today?

--------------------

(1) The Hebrew word used for heaviness in this verse means “weak, feeble, and faint.” It's also compared to a lamp that is gradually going out.

(2) Christ actually quotes a portion of this passage when He begins His earthly ministry (Luke 4:16-21).
