In Check Out the Great Cloud of Witnesses, I talked about the importance of studying the lives of Christians who have persevered and been victorious in the past.
Let's look at another important step in standing firm and facing our present challenges as Christians:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3
Is anything hindering you from spending time in prayer, Bible study, and fellowship?
We must identify and “throw off” anything that interferes with godly priorities. Some of these hindrances may be a waste of time and some may be sinful. But we can also wrongly prioritize good things, letting them crowd out things which strengthen our faith.
To face the increasing challenges of our devolving world, we must prioritize time in God's Word.
