I'd returned good for evil (Romans 12:14-21).
But the other person continued returning evil for good.
I was complaining about this to my husband discouraged that this unrepentant person wasn't held to account for his continuing unrepentant sins. I felt that he'd won and evil had triumphed over good.
“He seems to have won the battle,” my husband said, “but he's lost the war. And even though you appear to have lost the battle, your conscience is clear. You've won the war.”
He's right.
In this world we will have trouble, and sometimes bad people will appear to win (John 16:33).
But God knows everything (Luke 12:2). Even if others are fooled by ungodly people, God is not (2 Corinthians 10:18).
So let's not become weary in doing the right thing because “at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
No matter how many battles bad people seem to win, true Christ-followers are going to win the war (Ephesians 6:12; Revelation 17:14)!
Aren't you grateful that Jesus has the final word, not people or circumstances here on earth (2 Corinthians 5:9-10)?
