Designed Discontent

A secular study shows that human discontent is necessary and inevitable. This 1-minute devotion explains how discontent actually confirms Scripture. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

I recently read an article written by a psychiatrist who claims that human history proves man is not meant to be happy. He purports that we’re designed to survive and reproduce, and contentment lowers our ability to do so.

Secular researchers often identify human problems, but they arrive at conclusions that leave God out of the picture.

There’s no denying that happiness often seems elusive, even for those in ideal earthly circumstances.

Feeling discontent with life and sensing that something is missing often leads people to Christ. It was a huge factor in my conversion.

As C. S. Lewis so aptly explains: “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

In Christ, we find earthly contentment (Philippians 4:12; 1 Timothy 6:6-8). But we will never be fully content until we reach our true home in heaven (1 Corinthians 13:12; Hebrews 11:8-16).

Source article which comes to the wrong conclusions: Humans aren't designed to be happy.

  1. 1 Timothy 6:6: "But piety with contentment is great gain"; the only real contentment is in Christ.
