Kentucky recently upheld a state law requiring that women be given an ultrasound of their unborn child before deciding to have an abortion.
A judge who opposed the law said it was wrong to “manipulate doctor-patient discourse solely for ideological reasons.”
Translation: It’s better that women make life-and-death decisions without full knowledge of what they’re doing.
We insist on full disclosure for other medical procedures so people can make careful, educated decisions. But this judge wanted full disclosure denied to women seeking abortions.
Who’s guilty of manipulating things for ideological reasons?
We have evidence from secular as well as Christian authorities that women who have abortions often deal with long term depression, guilt, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Rushing a woman into an abortion without full knowledge of the facts is not only anti-child, it's anti-woman.
As Christians, we sometimes ignore the evidence and let the world manipulate us by its ideology. Let's insist on "full disclosure" in every area of our lives, getting our facts from Scripture, not from the world (Romans 12:2).
