In our workplaces, neighborhoods, and even in our church groups, we sometimes encounter annoying people.
These folks refuse instructions, lose their tempers, make unreasonable demands, and/or wallow in self-pity if they don't get their way. But their most dominant characteristic is their refusal to accept correction.
In some ways, they are exaggerated versions of ourselves. They're the worst examples, but they represent problems we all have if we're not vigilant about "putting off" our old sin nature and "putting on" our new nature in Christ (Ephesians 4:22-24).
Adam and Eve began this cycle of blame-shifting and stubborn resistance to correction. But in Christ we can "put off" these sins if we:
1. Judge ourselves honestly (Matthew 7:1-5).
2. Treat others the way we’d like to be treated (Matthew 7:12).
3. Never "adjust" the truth to make others look bad and ourselves look good (James 4:11).
4. Keep silent if we can't speak with love (Ephesians 4:15).
5. Willingly accept correction (Proverbs 13:18; Proverbs 15:32).
Annoying people don't do these things.
