1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray continually, but what does that really mean?
It sounds like an impossible command.
How can we pray continually when we are working, taking care of children, studying, talking with people, and carrying on normal life?
We can do it because it's an attitude, a "fixing of our thoughts" (Isaiah 26:3).
It doesn’t happen automatically. We must deliberately seek to develop this attitude of dependence on God (Proverbs 3:5).
Then, when we understand our daily, hourly, minute-by-minute need for God, prayer becomes automatic, almost like breathing (Ephesians 6:18).
It becomes our first response in every situation. We consult God about the details as well as the major decisions. We never hesitate to seek His advice or listen for His voice (Philippians 4:6; Hebrew 4:16).
We watch for "divine appointments" in our day (Colossians 4:2).
When someone is hurting or struggling, we immediately lift them in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1).
When we’re worried or fearful, we seek the shelter of His wings (Psalm 91:4; Psalm 17:8).
You might say prayer is our “default mode.”

Bible Love Notes
A woman asked Billy Graham how do you pray without ceasing? He replied" I am praying for you right now!" We always have secondary dialogue in our head. Instead of worrying about your next task or pondering someones fashion choice? Make your secondary dialogue to GOD! Prayer can and should be recognized as a quite devoted time with the Lord but it doesnt always HAVE to be. If HE lays it on your heart? Pray about it! Give it ALL to HIM!
